As a performer, Mako has appeared at major concert venues across Europe, including the Musikverein and Wiener Konzerthaus, Tonhalle Zürich, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Berliner Konzerthaus. She has also performed at leading contemporary music festivals including Wien Modern, Impuls, Ostrava Days, and SUENA Festival.
Since 2023, she has performed regularly with Ensemble Kontrapunkte Wien, and in 2025 she joined the Ostrava New Orchestra. Her artistic practice spans solo, chamber, and ensemble performance, with a particular focus on contemporary repertoire, premieres, and close collaboration with composers.
Mako earned her Bachelor of Music from the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo before moving to Vienna, where she completed the Diplom Program in Classical Performance at the Friedrich Gulda School of Music under the guidance of Eric Lamb. It was during this time that she discovered a deep fascination with contemporary music—a turning point that continues to shape her artistic identity. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Contemporary Music Ensemble at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, studying with Clement Power and Elena Gabbrielli. As part of her studies, she frequently collaborates with emerging composers, premiering newly written works and participating in a wide range of chamber and ensemble projects.
Alongside the modern flute, Mako is expanding her artistic practice through traditional wind instruments, including the shinobue, ryūteki, and quena, driven by a curiosity for diverse musical traditions and sound worlds. She is also developing projects involving electronics, exploring the intersection of acoustic performance, technology, and contemporary music.
Whether performing on stage, collaborating with composers, or exploring new musical ideas with fellow performers, Mako sees music-making as a shared process of dialogue, trust, and discovery. Through each project, she seeks to create performances that invite audiences to experience sound with fresh ears and an open mind.
